Statement in Response to the Cancellation of Prince Reza Pahlavi’s Speech at the Munich Security Conference
With deep regret and astonishment, the cancellation of Prince Reza Pahlavi’s speech at the Munich Security Conference—despite an official invitation from the organizers—is seen as an unexpected move that contradicts the principles of diplomacy and freedom of speech. This decision, influenced by political interventions and behind-the-scenes dealings, not only undermines the credibility of the conference but also raises serious questions about the Islamic Republic’s influence over the policies of certain European governments.
For the past 46 years, the Islamic Republic has demonstrated that it spares no effort to ensure its survival—including suppressing opposition, hostage-taking, and even resorting to terrorist tactics. The attempt to silence a representative who advocates for the rights and aspirations of the Iranian people once again highlights the regime’s growing concerns about its increasingly fragile position on the international stage.
The cancellation of this invitation is the result of pressures and covert negotiations, including concessions to the Islamic Republic in exchange for the release of dual-national hostages and other opaque agreements. Such an approach not only undermines the principles of justice and human rights but also sends a troubling message that appeasement of regimes with a record of
widespread human rights violations remains a part of some European countries’ policies.
Nevertheless, the Iranian people will once again demonstrate that their fate is determined not in closed political chambers but in the public sphere. The large gathering set to take place in Geneva will be an opportunity for free Iranians to show their support for Prince Reza Pahlavi and the struggle for freedom and democracy in Iran. This assembly will send a clear message to the international community: the voice of the Iranian people cannot be silenced, and the path to a free, just, and democratic future will continue with unwavering determination.
We expect European governments to stand with the Iranian people in defending democratic values and to refrain from decisions that inadvertently strengthen oppressive regimes. The future of Iran will be shaped by those who fight for freedom and justice, and no obstacle can halt this path.
